Half day avalanche rescue course with Wild Voss

When an avalanche hits a tour, a relentless stopwatch starts. Within 15 minutes, they must be buried out of the snow, for them to have a good chance of surviving. This means that the fellow hikers must be responsible for the rescue.

This half-day course gives you training in using avalanche equipment for search, excavation, and rescue of your fellow friends. We practice avalanche situations that require organization, precise location, and efficient excavation from the snow masses. Some basic first aid is also reviewed.

We rig for a training area that looks like an avalanche. In the snow masses, we dug down docks with an electronic transmitter/receiver, which you can practice finding and digging out. You will quickly discover that the search itself goes fast - and that the excavation is the critical part of the rescue. In the course, you learn strategies for effective excavation.

After this course, you should be able to use avalanche equipment (shovel, electronic transmitter/receiver, and search bar) to carry out camera rescue of avalanche technicians.

Some current moments this day:

Proper use of electronic transmitter/receiver.

Proper use of search bar and shovel.

Principle for organizing and conducting searches for landslides.

How to reduce the risk of landslides?

First aid for avalanches.
