Climbing experience at Staup

To experience climbing in the sun by a waterfall is fantastic! A few kilometers outside Voss, lies an idyllic climbing cliff that offers suitable climbing challenges for everyone.

Trip outline
This tour will give you a proper taste of what climbing is like. In staup the routes are bolted and they offer several levels of difficulty. They are routes for new beginners as well as for more experienced climbers. This cliff stands out because of its proximity to Voss and due to its beautiful environments. It is by a waterfall, has wooden benches and in spring you have sheep and lambs wandering around the field. The spot is also the starting point of several short and more demanding hikes in beautiful nature. The wall itself is 20 meters high.

Once we reach the wall, the climbing instructor will go through the safety gear, routines and plans for the climbing experience. He/she will first hang the ropes, so we have the routes ready to climb. If you are already experienced, you can try lead climbing. Participants can try climbing to the level they are comfortable with. We have no requirements for performance, and you do not need to do anything that you are uncomfortable with. You can decide how hard and how high you want to go. To have a challenge is great, but to have fun while doing it is even more important. The best climber is the one that has more fun!

And then comes the rappel. Rappelling is one of the most exciting parts of climbing. We will walk to the top of the wall through the forest. Then the instructor will fix the rappel route and all the safety for the group. You will get to rappel by yourself from the wall. Your own safety will be backed up by a system controlled by the instructor.

This climbing experience can be combined with a hiking tour in the area. By the cliff there is a path that leads to a serie of mountain farms and to more alpine terrain. The path cross and borders the river at several point, offering great opportunities bor bading in summer. That can be a great option for after your tour.

Climbing activities are arranged between the period 20th mai til the 25th of October.

Why trying climbing?
First of all, climbing is fun and a great way to exercise your body. But climbing is also something more than that. Climbing puts you in front of a challenge, and allows you to get on a mindset for overcoming such difficulty. Climbing offers a great balance between a physical and a mental challenge. You will learn a bit more about overcoming your fears and performing.

Physical requirements
You do not need to have climbed before. This experience is suitable for beginners, families, young and older, sporty or a bit more untrained. There are routes for all the levels and everyone can find their challenge.

Necessary equipment
Wild Voss provides all the necessary equipment for safety and climbing, such as harness, helmet, climbing shoes, ropes and gear. You should wear according to the weather and the activity. The approach from the parking to the wall is short. As a minimum, you can use mountain sandals in summer but not flip flops or other kind of shoe without grip on the sole, or proper ankle strapping. Take water and snacks with you. In summer sun glasses and sun scream can be highly recommended.

Meeting point and practical details
