Our suggestions on what to experience in Voss, this winter:
Voss Folk Museum and Mølstertunet
At Voss Folk Museum, you can step back in time and explore an authentic 16th-century farm cluster – Mølstertunet. The traditional buildings offer a genuine glimpse into historical architecture and rural life. The site also boasts a beautiful view over Voss town centre. Inside, you’ll find the exhibition Utsyn mot Voss, which tells the story of how the village has developed over the past 500 years. You'll meet many individuals who have shaped the local community, listen to recordings from some of Voss’s finest musicians, and watch films documenting the evolution of extreme sports in the area.
Voss Fellesbryggeri (brewery)
At the beer tasting, you’ll learn how we brew beer, cider, and stronger drinks. You’ll also get insights into the history of beer, especially in Norway, and the ancient yeast strain kveik. This is a cosy and enjoyable activity, whether you're a homebrewer yourself or just appreciate a good glass.
Eldhuset Dale
An eldhus (fire house) experience is a peaceful escape from the outside world. You could watch the open fire for hours. At Eldhuset Dale, benches and chairs are arranged around a 100-year-old kettle, surrounded by rustic wooden walls. Decorative items transport you to another time, and soft, atmospheric lights hang from the ceiling. Even on a grey West Norwegian day, the mood inside is warm and welcoming.
The eldhus experience is a short version of a traditional homebrewing course. Here, you’ll get to take part in the making of einerlåg, a juniper infusion that plays a central role in brewing traditional Norwegian farmhouse ale.
Entertainment and Concerts
Voss offers a wide range of concerts and events throughout the year. You can enjoy everything from small, intimate performances to large shows and festivals like Vossa Jazz. Check the event calendar for dates and details.
Cultural Experiences and Crafts
Curious about our local history? Guided tours and cultural workshops are increasingly popular, as more and more people become interested in our heritage.
Voss Kunst og Kultur offers group courses in ceramics, blacksmithing, and woodworking - a great opportunity to learn new skills while creating something unique with your own hands.
At Hedleberget in Voss, you can gain insight into the region’s industrial history. The slate quarries here were active for many years, and the Hedleberget interest group keeps the history alive through guided tours, events, and live demonstrations.
