Bike & Hike in Myrkdalen
The tour starts at Myrkdalen Hotel, which is situated at 450 metres above sea level. From the hotel the road goes gradually uphill to Kvassdalen - a luxuriant u-shaped valley which was formed by the glaciers thousands of years ago. Goats and cows are grazing in this valley and they are claiming the road just as much as the motorists and bikers in the area. At times you must bike zig zag to get past the animals who are enjoying the summer days on and along the road.
Don`t forget to look around you on the way up – the view of the 90 metre tall and spectacular Sendefossen waterfall will take your breath away!
At the hairpin turs towards Vikafjellet Mountain Plateau, we will stop biking and start hiking towards Vetle Grungen mountain farms. The hiking track is quite steep in the start and then it eases off the last kilometre to the mountain farms.
At the mountain farms you’ll see the Grungaelvi river which plunges down the mountain side to the Vetla Grungavatnet tarn. The tarn offers a refreshing swim on a hot summers day – so bring your swimming togs on the tour!
